We are here to ensure that you stay healthy and safe throughout your travels.
HPV Vaccine at Lichfield Travel Clinic
At Lichfield Travel Clinic, we offer the HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccine to protect against a group of viruses that can cause cervical cancer, other genital cancers, and genital warts. The HPV vaccine is a safe and effective way to reduce your long-term risk of HPV-related diseases.
We provide the licensed HPV vaccine Gardasil 9, which protects against nine types of the virus — including the most high-risk cancer-causing strains.
Who Is at Risk of HPV?
HPV is one of the most common viral infections worldwide and is spread through skin-to-skin contact during sexual activity. Most people will contract HPV at some point in their lives, often without knowing it.
Certain strains of HPV are linked to:
- Cervical cancer
- Anal cancer
- Penile and throat cancers
- Genital warts
- HPV can affect both men and women, and the risk increases with the number of sexual partners over a lifetime.
Who Should Consider the HPV Vaccine?
The HPV vaccine is recommended for:
Girls and boys aged 12–13 as part of the NHS routine school vaccination programme
Older teenagers and adults who missed the vaccine at school
Men and women up to the age of 45 who are at risk and have not been vaccinated
Individuals in high-risk groups, including:
Men who have sex with men
Individuals with HIV or other immune-suppressing conditions
Anyone engaging in new or multiple sexual partnerships
While the vaccine is most effective when given before sexual activity begins, it still offers protection later in life.
How Does the HPV Vaccine Work?
The Gardasil 9 vaccine contains proteins from nine different types of HPV. It works by prompting the immune system to produce antibodies that prevent infection from the most harmful HPV strains, including types 16 and 18, which cause around 70% of cervical cancers.
How Is the Vaccine Administered?
The vaccine is given as an injection in the upper arm
For those aged under 15, two doses are given 6 to 12 months apart
For those aged 15 or older, a three-dose schedule is needed at 0, 2, and 6 months
The course can be started at any time and is suitable for both males and females
How Effective Is It?
Provides over 90% protection against HPV strains linked to cervical cancer and genital warts
Immunity is long-lasting and offers protection well into adulthood
Widely used and proven to significantly reduce the risk of HPV-related cancers and infections

Some vaccines require multiple doses over a period of time, and certain vaccines take time to become fully effective. However, if your trip is sooner, don’t worry — we can still help with last-minute protection and advice.
Not necessarily. Vaccination requirements vary depending on your destination, planned activities, length of stay, and your medical history. In most cases, yes — but it depends on the type of vaccination and your specific health situation. Our clinicians will review your medical history, current medications, and any special circumstances before recommending vaccines or medications. Safety is our top priority, and we will advise you accordingly.
Some countries require an International Certificate of Vaccination (ICVP) for specific diseases, such as Yellow Fever. If this applies to your destination, we will issue an official certificate during your appointment. Always check entry requirements before you travel, or ask us for help.
Yes, it is generally safe and common to receive more than one vaccine during a single appointment. Our clinicians will space vaccines appropriately and explain what to expect, helping minimize any discomfort or side effects.
