We are here to ensure that you stay healthy and safe throughout your travels.
Yellow Fever Vaccine at Lichfield Travel Clinic
At Lichfield Travel Clinic, we offer the yellow fever vaccine to help protect against the yellow fever virus — a serious and potentially life-threatening disease transmitted by infected mosquitoes in certain parts of the world. The yellow fever vaccine is essential for both personal protection and to meet international travel requirements for entry into some countries.
We are a Yellow Fever Registered Centre, authorised to administer the Stamaril vaccine and issue an International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP) — commonly referred to as the Yellow Card.
Who Is at Risk of Yellow Fever?
Yellow fever is found in parts of:
Sub-Saharan Africa
Central and South America
Risk is especially high in rural areas, rainforests, and regions where mosquito-borne infections are common.
Yellow fever is a serious viral infection that can lead to liver failure, bleeding, organ damage, and even death. Travellers who are unvaccinated are at increased risk, particularly if visiting or working in areas with ongoing transmission.
Who Should Consider the Yellow Fever Vaccine?
You should consider the yellow fever vaccine if:
You are travelling to or transiting through a country where yellow fever is endemic or where proof of vaccination is required for entry
You plan to spend extended periods outdoors in tropical regions, including safaris, trekking, or remote travel
You are travelling for business, humanitarian work, or volunteering in affected areas
You are required to present an ICVP for visa or border entry purposes
Many countries will deny entry without proof of vaccination, particularly if you’ve recently visited a high-risk country.
How Does the Yellow Fever Vaccine Work?
The yellow fever vaccine contains a live, weakened form of the yellow fever virus. It works by stimulating your immune system to produce protective antibodies. This prepares your body to fight the virus if exposed in the future.
How Is the Vaccine Administered?
Given as a single injection, usually into the upper arm
Administered at least 10 days before travel to allow full immunity and validate your Yellow Card
A single dose offers lifelong protection in most cases, although some travellers may require a booster depending on their individual health or destination
After your vaccination, you will receive an International Certificate of Vaccination — officially recognised and valid for life.
How Effective Is It?
Highly effective: Over 99% of people are protected within 10 days of a single dose
Long-lasting protection: In most cases, one dose is enough for life
Required for travel to countries with a risk of yellow fever transmission or those enforcing entry requirements based on recent travel
Important Considerations
Because this is a live vaccine, it is not suitable for:
People with weakened immune systems
Infants under 6 months old
Individuals with severe egg allergies
Pregnant women, unless the risk of infection is unavoidable
Our clinical team will assess your medical history and travel plans to ensure the vaccine is safe and appropriate for you.

It’s recommended to book your travel consultation at least 6–8 weeks before you travel. Some vaccines require multiple doses over a period of time, and certain vaccines take time to become fully effective. However, if your trip is sooner, don’t worry — we can still help with last-minute protection and advice.

In most cases, yes — but it depends on the type of vaccination and your specific health situation. Yes, it is generally safe and common to receive more than one vaccine during a single appointment. Our clinicians will space vaccines appropriately and explain what to expect, helping minimize any discomfort or side effects.
